5 Steps to Whiter Teeth

White teeth are one of the first things people notice about your smile. Keeping your pearly whites clean and white doesn't have to be a chore. Here are five tips to help keep your teeth bright and healthy:

1.) Brush and floss twice a day

Brushing and flossing are the two most essential steps in keeping your teeth white. While you can use whitening toothpaste and other products to help, daily brushing and flossing are still needed to remove plaque from your teeth.

Brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day, preferably after eating but before going to bed. Use a soft bristle brush that has been approved by the American Dental Association (ADA). Place the bristles of the brush at a 45-degree angle against each tooth surface, then move it in small circles for 30 seconds on each side of your mouth (an average of 60 seconds per side). Brush all surfaces of all teeth, including any visible parts hidden behind other teeth or gums.

Floss once per day using 18 inches of dental floss or tape with rounded ends. Flossing helps remove plaque between teeth where traditional cleaning doesn’t reach. To avoid damaging gums and tooth enamel while flossing, pull gently across gum lines without sawing back and forth or digging into them with large loops.

2.) Use whitening toothpaste

Unlike regular toothpaste, whitening paste has a higher fluoride concentration and is more abrasive. It works by removing the brownish film on your teeth that makes them appear yellow. Regular brushing with whitening toothpaste will help to remove surface stains and make your smile brighter! However, it would be best if you did not use it for a prolonged period because it can wear down your enamel over time. The key to success with any facial treatment is patience: try not to get discouraged if you don't see results right away—it might take several weeks before you notice a difference in the whiteness of your teeth!

3.) Cut back on coffee and wine

Red wine and coffee are some of the most common culprits for staining teeth. To minimize the effects of these drinks, avoid drinking them after eating. If you must have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine after a meal, rinse your mouth with water afterward. This can help prevent stains from developing on your teeth and gums. However, it may still be best to cut back on these beverages altogether if you're trying to maintain a whiter smile.

4.) Eat crunchy fruits and vegetables

In addition to brushing your teeth and drinking water, eating crunchy fruits and vegetables can help you maintain healthy teeth. Crunchy fruits and vegetables contain insoluble fibers that help remove plaque from your teeth. They are also good for your overall health, making them a healthy addition to any diet plan.

5.) Schedule regular cleanings with your dentist

In addition to brushing and flossing regularly, you should schedule regular cleanings with your dentist. The frequency of visits depends on your oral hygiene habits and the condition of your mouth, but as a general rule, it's recommended that adults visit the dentist every six months for a checkup. If you have certain conditions like gum disease or periodontal disease (which can cause bad breath), it's best to increase this frequency to four times yearly.

Conclusion

As you can see, keeping your teeth white is not that difficult. All you need to do is follow these steps, and you’ll be on your way to a sparkling smile in no time. For more information on any of these topics, please get in touch with us today!
